Professional Web Design Reminders

One of the most important aspects of online marketing is having an eye catching website to sell your products in. And you will definitely catch the eyes of your readers long enough if you have a really good web site layout. Thus you need to invest heavily on web design in order to accomplish this goal.

But coming up with a decent professional web site design in far from easy. In fact, it might take you a lot of time before you can come up with a presentable website. However, if you know how to do site design properly, then you will be able to come up with some thing that is, at the very least, not amateurish.

Perhaps, your biggest concern would be the site's overall appearance. Here, what you need to keep in mind is that you need to make all the important areas of your site clearly visible and readable. This will be your guide in choosing the background color (or image) to use in your site's pages, as well you font's color, size and style.

One way you can go around in choosing these elements is to find those that are contrasting and complementary of each other. For example, if you are using an overall green background, then you can go for red text, as this can stand out more in this color. Also it would be wise to choose a muted tone for your background colors, so as not to take away attention from your text.

Your page layout is also very important in achieving that professional look. The idea here is to emphasize the most important contents of your page and make viewers read it first. One way you can do is to put the more important things in the center or the left side of your page, as these are the places where people are likely to look at first (for right handed languages, such as Arabic, it's the other way around). Also make sure that your contents occupy most of your pages and avoid leaving large empty spaces.

One thing that you definitely want to avoid when creating the layout of your page is using tables. Though HTML tables have been around since the beginning of web design, they are now large outdated and limited, considering the amount of contents websites carry nowadays. Instead, you can use newer approaches in coming up with the sections of your pages, such as using CSS to define the layout, as these are more flexible.

Another hallmark of amateur web design that you want to stay clear of is using to much Flash. Flash applications are definitely good if you want to add multimedia elements in your site (which are very popular with users). However, one bad thing about using Flash is that these aren't detected by search engines, which can greatly affect your rankings. Thus, limit your Flash objects only to those sections that really needs it, such as a video clips page.

Last thing that you need to consider is whether to come up with a static or dynamic website. This will greatly depend on the content that you are planning to put up. If your site is to contain information that isn't going to change frequently, then create a static page. But if you expect that your contents will be updated on a regular basis, then coming up with a dynamic site is much more suited.
